NAAJA has a vacancy in its Katherine criminal team. We are seeking a criminal lawyer with initiative, common sense and a commitment to providing access to justice for Aboriginal people.
NAAJA’s criminal lawyers have a busy caseload with a mix of cases that reflects their level of experience. Our lawyers appear regularly in the Court of Summary Jurisdiction and, where appropriate, the Supreme Court.
NAAJA’s Katherine office services a number of remote communities in the region, including Barunga, Beswick, Ngukurr, Kalkaringi, Lajamanu, Timber Creek and Yarralin. Staff are required to travel approximately once a month to provide legal services to clients before circuit courts in these communities.
It is essential that applicants have a demonstrated empathy and sensitivity to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, history and culture.
