The Peer Panel project is a diversionary program to operate for young people in the Darwin region. It has been funded by the Law Society Public Purposes Trust for a period of 12 months and auspiced by the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA).

The Panel will receive referrals from schools of young people at risk of coming into contact with police or the criminal justice system (aged between 13 – 17 years of age). Schools may also consider the option of referring the young person to be assessed for the Peer Panel project in instances where the schools are considering suspension of the student or other disciplinary action against a young person for a school-based infraction. The Panel seeks to put in place therapeutic plans to help young people address issues underpinning their behaviour and repair harm caused. Young people on the panel will represent a cross-section of the Northern Territory population and will include students in middle and senior school.
