The North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency Ltd (NAAJA) provides legal assistance and justice services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Northern Territory. We have offices in Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.

Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Youth Client Services Officer (CSO) to join our dynamic team. The Youth CSO will work alongside NAAJA’s youth team, to support young people and their families who have to go to court understand the court process, communicate effectively with lawyers, present choices and plans, and ensure youth clients are heard in court.
Duties
- Gather and record personal and family history from young people.
- Visit clients at home, offering support, information, and referrals to community services.
- Assist clients with legal information and help facilitate communication between clients and lawyers.
- Organise rehabilitation assessments and emergency accommodation for clients.
- Assist lawyers in finding family support, accommodation, transport, and other resources for young people on court orders.
- Complete forms and handle administrative tasks.
Selection Criteria Essential
- Knowledge of contemporary Aboriginal culture and experience working with Aboriginal people.
- Demonstrated initiative and an ability to provide a high level of client service.
- Good communication skills with a particular ability to communicate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Experience in office procedures including word processing, email and file keeping.
- Ability to liaise with other agencies and develop networks and contacts in other associated services within the community.
- Ability to work as part of a team and meet deadlines without supervision.
Requirements
- Availability to travel to remote communities and stay overnight.
- Ability to obtain a satisfactory “Working with Children Clearance” (Ochre Card) upon commencement.
- A current ‘C’ Class driving license.
